What Makes A Great Opinion Essay – 5 Basic Components
In writing an opinion essay, you should understand that your tutor simply wants to know your opinion on a given topic or issue. In order for your paper to be interesting and hook your readers from start to finish, you must ensure that it contains the five basic components that make a great opinion academic paper. You should clearly state your opinion, backing same up with strong viewpoints, examples and reasons. Don’t forget that mention should be made about the opposing viewpoint in a paragraph of its own. Therefore, in order to successfully write a great paper, here are the most important components. They are:
- Introduction: This is the first paragraph of your opinion essay. In order to make sure that your paper is read till the last page, you should use this first paragraph to get the full attention of your target readers. If possible, include anecdotes that would lay more credence to your opinion.
Thesis Statement: This is found within the introduction of your academic paper. It serves the purpose of telling your readers about the given topic and stating your opinion. This should be clearly written without ‘beating about the bush.’
Main Body Of Work: Depending on the number of paragraphs or pages required by your teacher, the body paragraphs can be a few paragraphs or pages. In writing this part of your paper, each viewpoint starts a new paragraph and included in it are the reasons for your viewpoint and possibly, examples to back up your point. Remember, the tutor’s required number of pages or paragraphs is what determines how many viewpoints you should write about.
Conclusion: This is that part of your opinion essay where you give a brief summary of your opinion. It is usually a restatement of what you already have in the introduction, said in varying terms and phrases but at the end, giving the same meaning. It is not advisable to introduce a new viewpoint in this part of your academic paper.
References: This is where you cite the sources used in writing your paper. Depending on your tutor’s requirements, the citation could be in APA or MLA. Without doing this, your work will be listed as plagiarized and at the end of the day, you will be penalized for using other people’s materials without stating so.
These are the five components that make a great opinion essay. Should you find out you cannot cope with the work, then you can always get help through your peers or by hiring a tutor or professional academic writer.
